The soybean is a legume like the peanut. It has a high protein content and is a good alternative to meat. Both tofu and soy milk made from soya bean and are often recommended as a substitute if you can not tolerate milk.

What is soy allergy?

Soy allergy is a common food allergy. Soy allergy is getting body’s immune system reacts against the proteins in soy. It appears that soy-allergic people also are allergic to other substances. Peanut allergy people can react to soya and if you have extremely severe peanut allergy, you should also avoid food products containing soy.

Soy allergy symptoms

The most common symptoms are stomach pain, diarrhea, swelling of the face, chest irritation, hives or eczema. Some can react to minute amounts, while others develop symptoms only after having ingested large quantities. For very severe soy allergy can react so strongly to have an allergic shock and need immediate medical attention because it can cause life-threatening reaction.

Diagnosis

One can make a diagnosis in several ways. The most common way is that together with doctors exclude all soy products from your diet and then test a small amount. There should then be a clear difference in how you feel when you remove and then add soy products.

You can also do allergy testing, through skin tests or blood tests. Your skin should give a reaction when exposed to soy protein. However, it is not an entirely safe method because not everyone has an effect on allergy tests. The safest way is to listen to your body – you feel bad when you consume soy products so you should avoid it.

Products containing soy

Certain foods always contain soy. These include edamame, Shoyu, tamari, tofu, tempeh, miso and natto. Soy is also sold as soy nuts and are used as health foods in the grain and meal replacement bars. If you see isoflavones advertised on a health food, watch out for soy on the label.

Soy lecithin and soy oil

Soya lecithin (E322) is an emulsifier used to mix fat and water, for example when producing margarine and some chocolate. It is extracted from soybean, but the amount of soy protein in the finished product is so small that it hardly can be measured. Therefore, lecithin supporting most soy-allergic people. Refined soy oil should not contain soy proteins. But if you are extremely allergic, it is best to avoid soy oil.

Milk allergy is one of the most common food allergies in small children, but adults can also develop milk allergy. Some children are responding to breastfeeding if the mother has eaten milk products. Milk allergy can manifest itself in different ways and it can be difficult to link symptoms of stubborn eczema or petulant mood to the dairy products that you eat.

Milk allergy is getting body’s immune system reacts against the proteins in milk. The reaction may occur immediately after you have ingested milk protein, but it can also take several days depending on the symptoms you have. Most people with milk allergies outgrow their symptoms and can start eating dairy products in school. But for some, the allergy will continue and you will then continue to avoid dairy products.

Milk allergy symptoms

The allergic symptoms may appear throughout the body. One or more symptoms can be simultaneously and with varying intensity. This means that the allergic reaction can vary widely from person to person. For very severe milk allergy can react so strongly to have an allergic shock and need immediate medical attention.

The symptoms of milk allergy can be divided into four major groups:

Skin: eczema, skin redness, itching, hives and swelling.
Gastrointestinal: diarrhea, constipation, colic, vomiting, stomach pain, blood in stools and difficult to absorb nutrients.
Respiratory disorders: asthma, cough and runny nose. There are varying opinions about milk allergies can cause inflammation of the middle ear.
General symptoms: general irritability, crying, headaches, apathy, anxiety, restlessness, lethargy and hyperactivity.

Diagnosis

You can make a diagnosis in several ways. The most common is that together with doctors exclude all dairy products from your diet and then test a small amount. It should then be a clear difference in how you feel when you remove and then add milk products. You can also do allergy testing, through skin tests or blood tests. It should give a reaction when the skin or blood are exposed to milk protein.

If it turns out you are allergic to milk, you should avoid dairy products completely for good health. Once you have been without milk for a while you will hopefully feel like you are in better balance.

Be careful with soy foods

Soy is sometimes used as a substitute for milk allergy but milk allergies can develop allergy to soy also. Therefore it is best to also avoid the soy products – talking with your doctor about what is best for you or your child.

Gluten is a common name for some proteins found in oats, wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease can occur in both children and adults and is an intestinal disease that affects small intestinal mucosa. Gluten is the culprit because it damages the intestinal mucosa and ability to absorb nutrients. It can make many people at risk of malnutrition. Therefore, a person with celiac disease should follow a gluten-free diet.

Symptoms

Common symptoms in children include weight loss, depression, bloating, constipation, diarrhea and vomiting. Common symptoms among adults include fatigue, diarrhea, depression, constipation, weight loss and anemic.

Foods that contain gluten:

Bulgur
Wheat Syrup
Wheat bran
Wheat Germ
Wheat berries
Triticale
Semolina
Malt

These foods may contain gluten:

Full and semi-finished products such as potato dumplings, stews, cakes, donuts thick, black pudding, sausage and fish balls.
Spice mixtures
Roasted onions
Brown beans
Casseroles
Pies
Soups
Blueberry and rosehip drink

Gluten Free Foods

Glutamate
Millet
Carob Flour
Corn starch
Buckwheat
Arrowroot
Locust bean gum
Guar gum
Malt Flavor
Maltodextrin
Maltose
Wheatgrass
Wheat germ
Glucose syrup
Rice flour
Wheat Starch
Soy sauce
Note: a food to be called gluten-free may contain no more than 0.05% gluten!

There are now many good substitute products that help the patient to follow a gluten free diet. It takes six months for the intestines to heal properly, but you have to continue with the gluten free diet for life to avoid problems.

Nut allergies are one of the most common food allergies. It’s not that you are allergic to all nuts, but at the same time it is different for each person. Here is a list of the most common nuts that you can be allergic to.

Peanuts
Cashew
Hazelnut
Almond
Although some are allergic to pecan, it’s not as common as the other nuts.

Allergen is closely related to our common nuts: walnut, peanut, walnut and almond. It is common for people with allergies to pollen trees have allergic reactions when they eat nuts, this is called “cross-allergy”.

A person who is allergic to a type of beef is almost certainly also allergic to other nuts. The symptoms are rapid onset of itching in the mouth, vomiting, hives / urticaria, eczema, nasal congestion, runny nose, difficulty breathing, stomach pain and life-threatening shock reactions.

Symptoms of nut allergies

Itching in the mouth
Eczema
Hives
Runny eyes and nose
Stomach pain with vomiting
Anaphylactic shock

Tip for those who are allergic to nuts

Being allergic to nuts in today’s society is not easy. You should always be cautious. On all products you buy you have to go through the table of contents and see that it does not contain anything inappropriate. Many products can be read “May contain traces of nuts” and then one should not eat it.

If you are traveling abroad is becoming much more difficult. It can be difficult to explain the restaurants that you are allergic to nuts and nut not even be touched at any other food. Take a chance not to eat anything if you’re very sensitive to nuts!

Fish allergy is a type of allergy that can cause very severe reactions. Hives, vomiting, stomach pains and diarrhea, anaphylactic shock with circulatory collapse, and severe asthma attacks are different reactions that can occur in fish allergy. For the most sensitive allergy patient, it is enough to feel the fish smell of suffering an asthma attack.

Individuals with fish allergy are generally advised to avoid all species of fish unless a specific species has been tested and can be tolerated by the individual. The allergic protein in fish is usually cross-reactive among all fish. Oral allergy syndrome is the most common sign of fish allergy. This allergy causes the tongue to immediately tingle after eating fish.

For a fish allergy person, it is imperative to always carefully read the contents of all pre-produced food, as there are several types of food products that are protein-enriched with fish protein. There are also feed enriched with fish protein, which makes the meat from an animal that was bred on such feed can contain sufficient amounts of fish allergen to trigger symptoms in most fish allergic individuals.

Sometimes people suffer from allergy-like reactions when they eat herring or tuna. This need not be an allergy but a reaction to the high level of histamine present in certain fish. These reactions may manifest as troublesome rash, headache and stomach pain.

Asthma Attacks are caused by:

Cramps (spasms) in the muscle that surrounds the airways (bronchial)
Increased production of viscous mucus
Swollen mucous membranes
Damage to the epithelial cells
New immune cells that exacerbate the disease process
All of these disease mechanisms caused by the immune cells in the mucosa release biochemical substances.

The disease causes an inflammation of the bronchial mucosa. Untreated, this inflammatory process, cause the muscles grow and the bronchial tubes may be permanent damage, with chronic constriction of the airways that results.

Asthma Attacks can be triggered by allergic reactions, and of various substances that irritate the airways, flying dust, cigarette smoke, harmful gases (such as diesel long, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides), cold, raw and cold weather, climate change of clothes, respiratory infections and physical exertion, especially in cold weather.

SYMPTOMS
Asthma Attack trigger varying degrees of heavy breathing, wheezing, coughing, and a feeling of congestion of the chest. The cough can be dry, but usually is accompanied by tough mucus coughed up. The symptoms can be difficult to distinguish from bronchitis and prolonged colds.

Attacks can be brief, a few minutes or hours, but can also last for several days, so-called status asthmaticus. It is typical that the discomfort is worse in the night and early morning.

Food allergy is most common in children. Approximately one fifth of children in the three-year-old is reported to have some kind of hypersensitivity to a food. Even the more serious forms of allergy to nuts, peanuts and soy are often created during adolescence. There are no reliable data on how common food allergy is in adults.

Most reactions are mild and disappear over time, so the child can then eat the suspected foodstuff without any problems. As early as 6 years of age, the incidence of hypersensitivity reactions have fallen to around 8 percent.

There have been due to pollen allergies which are becoming more common and thus are “cross-sensitization” the form of food allergy is more significant. A cross-allergy is such that a birch pollen may experience discomfort with itching in the mouth and throat, for example, apples, nuts, raw potatoes and raw carrots and even of some other fruits and vegetables. This is due to allergen in birch and these foods are similar.

The most common food allergies are those to eggs, milk, fish, shellfish, legumes (soy beans, peanuts and peas), nuts and cereals. It is the protein in these foods that cause allergy.

In recent decades, our eating habits have changed dramatically. We now eat more cooked foods in school meals, canteens and restaurants. In homes, you use more of both full and semi-finished products as various kinds of mixed products, which means that no one really knows what it is getting easier and may experience hypersensitivity reactions. Increased use of additives such as soybean has resulted in an increasing number of individuals develop allergies to just soy.

There is really no good medical treatment for food allergy other than to avoid what is suspected to not sustain. It is a time consuming and complicated task to investigate and diagnose food allergy.

There are also very few doctors who has detailed knowledge of this particular form of allergy. In a severe general reaction, a so-called allergic or anaphylactic shock, is put into acute treatment with antihistamine tablets, cortisone and adrenaline injection, which have been mastered everywhere in healthcare.

Diagnosis

Asthma is often confused with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – COPD, but differs from that disease by its distinctive variety of symptoms, the widely varying lung capacity, and the rapid and good response to asthma medications.

It is often necessary to have several appointments to make the diagnosis, at least in the case of mild or moderate asthma, and if you do not have asthma attacks just under medical examination. Typically, normal lung capacity when no attack is in progress.

A doctor can measure lung function with spirometry, a survey that measures lung volume and airflow velocity.

Tests with asthma medicine, so-called reversibility test, is necessary to make the diagnosis. Such tests can be done in a doctor, but it is often better if the patient measuring lung capacity at home using a simple peak flow meter. One can then easily capture asthma attacks.

Treatment with drugs

If you use asthma medication that dissolves cramps in the muscles around the bronchial tubes, such as Bricanyl, Oxis, Serevent and others. These medications are used when necessary and is only symptom relief.

For longer term use is usually mucosa recovery. The immune cells, which are central in the process of asthma, disappear from the mucosa. Asthma symptoms are less frequent and relieved and raising the threshold for an asthma attack is triggered. These medications also protect the normal lung function in the long run. Without these medications leads to the chronic inflammation process to sustained constriction of the airways, and you get over the years a worse lung capacity.

Antileukotriene as Singulair or Accolate is also disease prevention and have a similar mode of action of cortisone. Corticosteroid tablets are used for acute exacerbation of asthma.

Dust mites are microscopic arachnids (0.08 to 0.3 mm). It is above all their feces grains that are highly allergenic. These are about the same size as pollen, are relatively heavy and eddies are not around in the indoor air such as cat allergen.

Dust mites feed mainly on dead skin, dandruff, which we all produce in abundance. They live, reproduce and die in our bed linen in which their basic needs are well catered for: food, moist, warm air and darkness. They can not stand the cold and dehydration. Therefore, you still find the most allergen in the bedrooms.

There are many different species of mites. The mites that we can most readily develop allergy was first found in house dust and are therefore often house dust mites. The term dust allergy has outlived its usefulness and should be avoided. Dust is a mixture of all possible material and contain many substances that can irritate the respiratory tract, especially if you already have an allergy.

There is no single topic in the world that causes so many cases of asthma and allergic rhinitis as mites. This is particularly true in countries with warm, humid climate and building traditions in favor of mites. The major health problems due to dust mites in the Netherlands, Belgium, British Isles, New Zealand and Australia. These countries also have the highest incidences of allergic respiratory diseases in the world.

Mites Allergy give the same symptoms as other respiratory allergies: sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose and eyes, and asthma. As with fur allergies gives the constant contact with the allergen more constant trouble. These are also characterized by increased sensitivity to various airway irritants such as fog, smoke, perfume, other sharp smell etc.. Chronic eczema can sometimes be due to mite allergy.

How to protect yourself if you have mite allergy?

Ventilate and clean the bedrooms especially carefully, airing bedding, carpets.
Change like the mattress and pillow and obtain washable, allergen-proof pillow and mattress covers.
Improving air quality in the house through ventilation.
Washing and drying laundry indoors should be avoided if ventilation is poor.
Excessive showering contributes to the high humidity in the home.
Use only the modern vacuum cleaner with approved filters.
Avoid carpeting in the bedroom.
Lower the temperature in the bedroom.

Nickel allergy is a form of allergic contact dermatitis and manifests itself as redness, swelling and small water-filled blisters in the skin. Nickel allergy is more common in women than in men.

The reason for this include making holes in the ears or other type of piercing. Nickel allergy begins to increase in men as it has become more common that men pierced themselves.

What can you do to prevent nickel allergy? First and foremost, avoid items that contain nickel. This is not straightforward, because nickel is the number of buttons, rivets, buckles, watches, jewelry, pens, keys and coins etc.

Since allergy risk is greater the younger you are, it’s a good idea to wait to have your ears pierced. Piercing should be sent only to someone who follows the EU regulations on nickel content.

To ensure that an object does not contain nickel, you can buy a nickel test at the pharmacy to ensure that the object does not carry too much nickel.
